Dear Fellow Racer,
We hope winter has treated you well and you’re ready to
start planning
your 2007 racing calendar.
Lake Ontario sailors are so fortunate to have many high
quality “major”
regattas to choose from when deciding where to race this season. The
Challenge
Cup at Sodus Bay YC, the NOOD Regatta hosted by National and Royal
Canadian,
two regattas at Oswego with the All-J Regatta and the SailOswego
Regatta,
Youngstown’s famous Levels Regatta, LYRA (this year at ABYC, east of
Toronto),
CORK at Kingston, Rochester Race at RYC, Hospice Regattas at several
clubs
around the Lake and many, many more!
For “east-enders”, the Eastern Yachting Circuit’s Annual
Regatta is
a perennial favorite! Like the LYRA Regatta, the EYC Regatta travels
from
host club to host club; some years in Canada, some years in the
States.
Coming off a banner year, where SBYC hosted the LYRA Regatta followed
up
by the 8 Metre North American Championship, the “little club that
could”
readies for another exciting Regatta, the 2007 EYC Regatta!
SBYC will follow the traditional format for this year’s EYC
Regatta
with a Long Distance Race scheduled for July 12th, followed by Course
Racing
on July 13th and 14th. See the SBYC website, www.sodussbayyc.org
for our “tentative” Schedule of Events.
For those headed to Great Sodus Bay from the “north shore”,
Brian Thomson
is attempting to organize a delivery race from the Prinyer’s
Cove/Collins
Bay area on July 11th. Please contact Brian for more info on that.
Brian’s
email is bgthomson@yahoo.com.
Although we are in the early stages of planning the event,
let me share
some of our thoughts…
1)We will provide top-notch volunteer Race Management with
enough support
boats to insure all races get off in a timely manner. All volunteers
will
attend a Race Management Seminar this spring to hone skills.
2)The entry fee is not determined yet, but it will not
exceed $45USD.
Non-EYC boats are encouraged to participate! (A small, non-EYC
participation
fee will be charged-$5 to $10 range.)
3)We will offer high quality, very affordable meals. We’re
planning
an inexpensive Continental Breakfast for each morning, probably hots
&
burgers for Wednesday evening, maybe a Chicken barbeque on Thursday and
either a Steak roast or Pig Roast on Friday! You’re going to want to
eat
every meal at SBYC! (If you have special dietary needs, please let us
know
how we can help!)
For those boats attempting to put together a “Boat of the
Year” resume,
don’t forget that the EYC Regatta IS a LYRA BOTY Tier 1 event (3
required)!
Everyone at SBYC is looking forward to seeing you at this
year’s EYC
Regatta. Be sure to pencil in July 12th, 13th & 14th and we’ll see
you here!
Sincerely,
Alys Klingenberg and Tom Knapp
Co-Chairs 2007 EYC Committee
Extra, Extra!
Hot off the wire….. Mount Gay Rum has agreed to again
sponsor
the EYC Regatta! We will have Mount Gay hats to give away!
