SBYC SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
There are many social events that take place at
the Club from April to the first of November.New members often wonder what
these events are about and what to wear. A brief description of each
event should be helpful.
Mid-Winter Dance
Held sometime mid-January to mid-February the event can
be either formal or informal.Details are announced well in advance of the
planned event.
Early Birds
Held prior to the official date of the Club opening. Club
members volunteer to host these events and decide what the main course
will be. Everyone brings a dish to pass and their own place settings.Early
Birds are casual and sometimes are given a theme and members can wear crazy
attire.
Spring Dinner
Dressy event where new members are formally introduced
to the membership.A reception is held prior to dinner so new members can
meet the Officers and Directors.
Sail Pass
This festive event is held on Memorial Day and officially
starts the boating season. Club members sail or motor past the clubhouse
and exchange salutes with the Commodore.The Commodore's punch bowl, hors
d'oeuvres and a luncheon buffet follow the SailPass.
Attire is navy blue blazers and white trousers or skirts.
Commodore’s Ball
Semi-formal to formal dinner/dance to honor the present
and all past Commodores.
Diehards
Held after Labor Day when the dining room is closed for
the season.Same format as the Early Birds. Steak Roast and Pig Roast are
two of the events.
Soup Supper
Is held the first part of October. New members are invited
to bring favorite soup to share. Members will also bring a dish to pass
and everyone brings their place setting.
Annual Dinner
Members hear the annual report and vote on a new Board
of Directors. This is followed by appetizers and dinner. Attire is dressy.
Awards Dinner
The Race Committee hosts this event, whence the race awards
are presented. This event is a combination costume ball and award ceremony.
As the final, crowning event of the social season this occasion vies for
"best party of the season" honors every year.Don't miss it!
