Reciprocal Agreements

The Tie That Binds Us Together

There are over 80 yacht clubs on Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence Seaway and elsewhere in the U.S. with which we share reciprocal privileges. Members of SBYC enjoy the assurance of a welcome feeling at these clubs and through this reciprocity find like minded folks tied up at our docks to enjoy our hospitality.

When it comes right down to it, boating is what brings us all together, what attracts us to join the club in the first place. The Boating Director is responsible to assure that the club activities directly involved in boating continue to be available to the membership and guests from other yacht clubs as well as maintaining a safe environment on the water.

Boating

The Tie That Binds Us Together

Sodus Bay, the largest bay on Lake Ontario, is located on the south shore between Rochester and Oswego with easy access from Syracuse to Rochester and throughout the Finger Lakes region. The bay itself is a beautiful inland protected harbor unique in its size and scenic splendor.  Our yacht club provides easy access to this gorgeous natural waterway and Lake Ontario. You can get anywhere in the world from Sodus Bay Yacht Club or just spend the day enjoying the bay. Any weekend during our season members may be seen boating or tossing the anchor out while other members anchor close by or tied in an afternoon flotilla for an impromptu lunch and swimming. How about an excursion to Fair Haven or Rochester or Oswego for the weekend? It can all be done from here.

With the vision of past Commodore Tom Knapp, we leased and then bought four Ideal-18 sailboats. These boats boast the security of having a full keel and ease of sailing for a trip around the bay on a weekend or a day off during the week. The club uses a subscription method to keep these boats maintained and in good order for the use of those members who subscribe to the program for a $100 annual fee. The availability of these club owned boats is not only a “perk” of membership, it provides non-boat owning members the opportunity to get out on the water at minimal expense

The annual membership dues invoice provides a way to sign up for the Ideal 18 subscription program. If by chance you missed this on the annual dues invoice send a check to the club Treasurer for $100 and please make a note in your check's memo area  "Ideal 18".

Our annual club cruise takes members on a summer vacation around Lake Ontario. We travel to ports where we have reciprocal agreements with other clubs for a day or two visit, enjoying the participating club's facilities and company of their members.  Organizers lay out an exciting venue giving our members a different experience each year for a wonderful summer vacation. The fellowship and security of transits among other member boats make this a must-do event for any lover of the water and the lake shore life and communities.
